What does God think about us?
I want to start this portion of truth with some gems of wisdom from A.W. Tozer taken from his book titled Knowledge of the Holy. Tozer writes this “What comes to our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” In the same vein of thought, what should be the most important thing to us is what God thinks about us. While that may sound a little like a riddle, it isn’t. Now lets be clear on this fact, when God thinks something, whatever it is, it has become fact. That is to say it cannot be altered by anyone or anything.
When God speaks His Word goes forth and creates as in the beginning God said “let there be,” and it materialized. Case in point is His creation of the new man, 2 Corinthians 5:17 “if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away. This text is the announcement of the death of you (Romans 6:6-7) and the end of your history in the first Adam, all things are become new!
Building on that truth the apostle proclaims this – “I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord that with the mind I myself serve the Law of God.” This fact is made factual because the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made me free from a Law of sin and death (Romans 8:2) that had dominance over me. Because of this work of God, the Law of Sin and death no longer has power over me. The Law of Sin and death saw me judged, crucified, buried, and raised as a new creation as described in Romans 6:6.
Christ’s Righteousness is Ascribed to all Believers
Christ’s righteousness ascribed to all believers is revealed as the operation completed by God, done without hands, as seen in Colossians 2:11-12. Laws are fixed, established by God! God exacts death required by His Law but grants eternal life by grace to all who will accept the gift of His Son as reconciliation to Himself. Look carefully at the facts, made free – made free by the work accomplished by another – God did it. Our freedom in Christ is only through the measure of faith we have in believing what He says as fact. We believe as we act, we act as we believe! The Father does not recognize us as His children based on or actions. God sees us as His children because He has placed us under the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus. We are lights in a dark world because we as believers are in the True LIght which illuminates the whole world with truth.
Though we be in Christ it is still impossible for us to orchestrate the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit is after all His fruit, and not ours. Jesus lives in us teaching each of us to yield to the leading of His spirit. He desires to use our bodies to reveal Himself and His fruit unto the world. The apostle Paul states that it is our reasonable service to present our bodies as a living sacrifice to the Lord in order that the mind of the “I” of the inner man of Romans 6:16 be renewed with the magnitude of the essence of God revealed in Ephesians 3:16-19.
The transformation starts with the recognition that we are new Creatures, new men and women in Christ. If you find that you are trying to please God by improving the old man of your first birth, stop – he is dead, God says so! The only thing achieved through the “Adam improvement society” is failure, culminating in grieving the Spirit of God. How would you like to purchase a very costly gift for someone you love, only to observe them daily trying to use an old broken version that had been faulty from its first day of existence.
Stop digging in the stuff that has been rejected by God in an the attempt to find something you can claim as good reason for Him to like you. As a believer He already loves you, just not for any reason of your doing. Christ glory is His, fully recognized as we see in chapter 5 of Revelation. As John weeps because no man in heaven or earth is found worthy to open the seals, the angel says to Him, weep not for there is One who is worthy to open the seals, The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David has PREVAILED to open the Book and loose the seals! At this moment in eternity there is no doubt as to the Glory of God Or the Glory of His Christ!
Believe God As Well As Believing In God!
Now with the Glory of Christ established as well as His Credentials as the only Savior of mankind, we go back to the “I” of Romans 7:23. Who do you believe the “I Myself” to be? More importantly, do you see yourself in the verse? Paul shared the same common connection to Christ that all true believers have, The difference between Paul and many Christians is this, he did not just believe in God, He believed God. Paul believed himself to be a new man created by God and recognized he was no longer the Saul of his first birth date. He was no longer the seed of the first Adam, for that man died in the circumcision done without hands as he describes later in Colossians 2:11-12.
What is the application of this truth to you personally? The degree to which you apply the truth of your new identity will directly affect your walk in the Spirit. Everything that you believe God said to you honors his work in you and before others! We are witnesses of His work in us.
